Location: San Diego County

The Objective: Trans-Lang has had a contract with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) for approximately 3 + years. SANDAG is a public agency that serves as the forum for regional decision-making in San Diego County. By building consensus, making strategic plans, obtaining and allocating resources, plans, engineers and building public transportation infrastructure SANDAG has a key role in the region’s quality of life. As a partner for SANDAG, Trans-Lang provides language support for a wide range of needs, helping to support their desire to communicate important regional plans to the residents of San Diego.

On-site interpreting at community workshops/hearings and other public events is a key service Trans-Lang provides SANDAG. Trans-Lang also provides interpreting for various high-level meetings SANDAG undertakes with their partners in federal government, such as the U.S. State Department, the General Services Administration and the Department of Transportation, as well as counterparts in Mexico.

Unique Challenges: As part of our responsibilities to interpret at high-level meetings, Trans-Lang recently incorporated new web-based interpreting software to facilitate communication between SANDAG and their partners and counterparts located far afield in Washington DC and Mexico City.

Solutions to problems encountered: By utilizing our technical expertise and variety of interpreting equipment along with our knowledge of the latest in translation technology, we were able to provide SANDAG a unique hybrid solution that enabled simultaneous interpreting to take place in a board room of high-level officials, planners, engineers and associated staff, along with participants 3,000 miles away.

Final outcome: As a public agency with the responsibility of designing and planning some of the biggest infrastructure projects in a region that shares an international border with northern Mexico, our client is able to communicate seamlessly with constituents and counterparts on topics that affect the quality of life of millions of people.
