The Objective: For over 10 years, Trans-Lang has been the language service provider for San Ysidro Health, a well-respected, non-profit organization committed to providing high quality, compassionate, accessible and affordable health care services for the Southbay Communities of San Diego and San Ysidro. Trans-Lang helps San Ysidro Health in the crucial task of helping SYH communicate with their core patient base, many of whom are non-English speakers. Trans-Lang also provides support to the executive teams of SYH by translating and interpreting various monthly board meetings and related documents.
By providing on-site interpreting and translation into Spanish and Arabic, among other languages, Trans-Lang provides support to SYH that allow it to continue to provide innovative care to over 95,000 patients through a vast and integrated network, including medical and dental clinics, behavioral health centers, HIV, centers, WIC nutrition centers, mobile medical units, school-based health centers, chiropractic services, pediatric developmental clinic, teen clinic, senior health center and their Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
Unique Challenges: The support Trans-Lang provides San Ysidro Health includes meetings scheduled in advance as well as shorter turnaround projects. Trans-Lang recognizes the importance of San Ysidro Health to the communities they serve. The staff know they can rely on Trans-Lang to handle language service requests even on short notice and with very short turnaround times. Another unique aspect of working with San Ysidro Health are the many departments that depend on our support. We have developed a rapport with various department heads over the years and the dependability of our work has allowed them to entrust us with various language support work for projects big and small.
Solutions to problems encountered: Translation of Board Meeting-related documents is a core service of what Trans-Lang provides SYH. The request to translate this material often comes with short turnaround times. Trans-Lang anticipates SYH’s requests as much as possible to make sure the translated documents are always ready when needed. On the interpreting side, Trans-Lang regularly interprets for Board and related meetings. These meetings often deal with financial reports and strategy, two very complex subjects that require a vast amount of experience and knowledge of specific terminology on the part of our interpreter.
